The coronavirus pandemic is presenting new challenges for the 34 million Americans living with diabetes. According to a recent report from the CDC, those with underlying conditions such as diabetes are six times more likely to be hospitalized and are 12 times more likely to die as a result of contracting COVID-19. Communities of color are also disproportionately affected because of underlying socio-economic and health disparities.
At a time when the need for quality, affordable care is critical, how can those with diabetes reach their physicians, and get access to life-saving medications and devices? What policy priorities need to be put in place to ensure that diabetes management tools and resources are readily available and accessible?
